LEADERS ARE PEOPLE THAT OTHERS CHOOSE TO FOLLOW

I’m Erin Averbukh, a TRULY INDEPENDENT candidate running for City Council in Ward 14. I’m running to bring the transformative change Ward 14 deserves and City Council needs.

I’m not running to beat anyone or to play politics. Enough with the drama and enough with the status quo.

I’m running to raise the bar on how City Hall serves people because I believe things can be done better and I know I'm the one who can bring real change.

My campaign is exclusively about restoring trust and getting back to basics with strong relationships, good management and leadership that puts Ward 14 first.

Independent Non Partisan Leadership

Calgary’s new rules let us choose from local parties or independents.

Independence means being free from both political and corporate interests, ensuring decisions are made solely for Ward 14 and Calgarians - not for political or corporate agendas.

An independent candidate with an MLA's or MP's endorsement means they are influenced with political ties which vetoes their independent status.

I’m not affiliated with any party and I’ve never worked for or walked with a politician - I don’t even know one.

I’m a Calgarian, running for Calgarians.

For the people, by the people.

Ward 14 deserves decisions made for residents - not for political allies.

If I’m the only Councillor without a political agenda - I'm certain that would make me the leader.

From coffee crews in Midnapore to parking lots at the lakes, I've heard you loud and clear. Let's keep it local.

I WILL TOE THE COMMUNITY LINE, NOT THE PARTY LINE.

Fresh Action for Old & New Files

Experience has its place, but too often, it repeats old habits instead of driving change. My fresh perspective and energy will steer Ward 14 toward a better future focused on priorities that deliver real value.

I will breathe new life into the old dusty files that have sat unanswered in the Ward 14 office and make sure every concern receives the attention it deserves.

As a proud resident of Sundance since 2003, I will serve Ward 14 with the balance of a neighbour who shares your concerns and a councillor elected to represent you.

FRESH VISION, STRONG FUTURE

Why I’m Running

Like many, I wasn’t always deeply engaged with municipal government - well I am now, and that changed in 2021. From day one, the decisions and actions made by our current council have appalled and frustrated me, along with countless other Calgarians.

Some current councillors simply aren’t doing their job, which is to listen to their constituents and act on the values they were elected on.

I’ve always believed: if you want to complain about government, the least you can do is vote, but if you really want change - you better run.

So that’s why I’m running.

I’m running for our families, our communities and our city.
I'm running to be a Councillor you’ll be proud of, and the one that you deserve.

I'M RUNNING FOR YOU

I have NOTHING to lose by running for you - but you have A LOT to gain by voting for me.

My Vision

A safe, efficient, well-served Calgary led by a collaborative, forward-thinking Council that takes us from greatness to excellence — together.

I view The City of Calgary for exactly what it is - a “Corporation” who deliver core services, practical governance and policies that make both fiscal and societal sense.

City Council should answer to Calgarians, not Administration. Currently it looks like the tail is wagging the dog, and it’s time to restore the city's corporate structure, so that it serves the people, not itself.

NOTHING CHANGES, IF NOTHING CHANGES

"If you build it, they will come..." I will implement a transparent, resident-driven voting platform where verified Ward 14 residents can directly influence my votes on Council decisions that impact our Ward and Calgary as a whole.

I'll provide clear, easy to understand and accessible information while maintaining a public voting record to support my accountability to you - not to parties, packs or pals.

My approach will always be the same: I will never claim to know everything, but I do promise to listen, learn and make sensible decisions rooted in facts and fairness. As a community, we will look at the risks and benefits openly and together, we'll make sensible decisions that serve all of us.

This is OUR WARD - so let's run it OUR WAY.

Look at the Signs

The writ dropped on September 22 and we remain a race of seven candidates. You’ve likely seen the large campaign signs across Ward 14 - they’re hard to miss.

Take note of my modest signs. (Most of my large signs have suspiciously disappeared… but that just fuels me to work harder)  They were made possible by the generosity of local donors who supported me directly and are transparently posted on my site. This reflects my commitment to fiscal responsibility - I'm managing campaign funds the same way I’ll manage your tax dollars: wisely, efficiently and with accountability.

My competitors’ massive, high-cost signs, placed in multiple locations across the ward tell a different story. Those campaigns are funded by donors expecting something in return: "Future Favour Funds."

Imagine the power Ward 14 holds if you elect me. We’ll have no favours to fulfill, no scores to settle and no deals to do.

I’ll report to you - and those corporations and parties funding my competitors? They’ll answer to us.

Electing me, restores the power to the people. Full stop.

What I Bring to the Table

City Council is full of internal politics, between peers, administration and other levels of government. Managing that requires skill, diplomacy and the ability to build strong relationships, find common ground and get things done - and that’s exactly what I bring to this race.

I know the role has a political side, but Council must stay non-partisan. My focus is on collaboration, accountability and real results for Ward 14 and for Calgary.

With over 30 years of business and project experience, I work well with others and I know how to negotiate, lead and deliver results.

My discipline and sharp business lens will ensure your tax dollars are managed responsibly and effectively, ensuring Calgary is well-served, safe and livable.

I’ll work hard for Ward 14, stay strong, listen with an open mind, be available, keep learning and communicate frequently and honestly.

My proven relationship-management skills make me more than qualified to represent Ward 14 and all Calgarians. I’ll be the refreshing and much-needed change that Ward 14 deserves and City Hall needs.

I say what I mean, and I mean what I say and I have what it takes to serve Ward 14, and all Calgarians, with integrity and action.

My Priorities

With a strong focus on value, I’ll prioritize smart city management, public safety and practical and effective governance.

I’ll champion meaningful community engagement, grounded in transparency, accountability and results.

You can expect your tax dollars to be used wisely, to maintain and build roads, parks, and infrastructure, strengthen public safety and improve service efficiency.

You can also expect that I’ll uphold your values and prioritize value itself.

Priority Files Include:

1. â€‹File a motion to "repeal or halt" the controversial blanket re-zoning bylaw. With community input, we will pursue thoughtful amendments; ones that stay true to the original goal of creating affordable housing, respect community voices and include strong and controlled architectural design standards, supported by appropriate infrastructure.

2. I will not support a budget that raises taxes without real savings. Calgary has a surplus that should be used to ease the burden on families and seniors.

Council must run the city like a business, find efficiencies and deliver better value for every tax dollar.

3. Put the gas on the Green Line. Let’s take it to Seton and build it faster. It is long overdue for Calgary to prioritize a line from the airport to the core, I will work hard to make that project a reality.

4. Control gates on all C-Train platforms. When the City says $100 million is too much to install control gates on CTrain platforms but spends $225 million to purchase 125 EV buses, it is clear the city's environmental file has been allowed to trump the public safety file.

We need practical decisions that protect both people and the planet, but when safety is at risk it must always come first.

5. I will also demand accountability on the $87 BILLION “Calgary Climate Action Plan.” That is an insane amount of money and this plan needs scrutiny.

We can be both stewards of the environment and fiscally responsible - they're not mutually exclusive, but let's be sensible about it.

"Pathways to 2050" sounds more like "Pathways to Passing Down Un-Serviced Debt into Perpetuity". The next generation will have enough to tackle in order to live well, these financial decisions will just make it harder for them.

6. Should such massive spending even be passed without a plebiscite or at the very least community engagement? (websites have the ability to run polls).

Council needs stronger oversight. We shouldn't have to micromanage Administration, but there should be clear spending thresholds that require Council approval. The same principle should apply to Council itself - major spending decisions should require transparency and approval from Calgarians.

The Stakes

Municipal elections always matter but Calgary's 2025 General Election on October 20th matters more than ever. With eight vulnerable seats on Council, Ward 14 has the opportunity to elect a leader that will restore the power to its people.

Because a vote for me, is a vote for:

  • Strong Independent Leadership - free from party influence or special interests

  • Fresh, Innovative Ideas - modernize how Calgary grows and serves residents

  • Fiscal Sensibility - smart, transparent spending that delivers real value

  • Meaningful Community Engagement - decisions shaped with you, not for you

  • Public Safety - safer streets, transit and public spaces

  • Reliable, Efficient Services - the basics done right, every time

  • Sensible Zoning - growth that matches infrastructure and keeps housing affordable

Quite simply... real change with real solutions that will serve OUR WARD - A NEW WAY.
